Welcome. I’m Anya Taylor, and I teach Pilates with a specialization in pelvic floor Pilates, and prenatal and postpartum Pilates. I offer private sessions in my Temescal area studio, easily accessible from many East Bay Area locations, including Berkeley, Oakland, Emeryville, and San Francisco.
I enjoy working with people of all ages and skill levels whether they are athletes, suffering from chronic pain, rehabilitating from surgery, or simply seeking to learn more about their bodies. I also work with pregnant women and mothers wanting to recover their strength and reconnect with their bodies after pregnancy and childbirth.
If you’re dealing with physical challenges, looking to improve your body’s strength and resilience, or recovering from childbirth, injury, or surgery, I’d love to speak with you about how we can work together.
You can find out more about what I do and how I work by reading the pages below. Feel free to contact me for a complimentary phone consultation or reach out to me through my Contact page.
Pilates is a form of exercise designed to bring balance and stability to the body through a series of movements that focus on breath, coordination, awareness, and control.
It focuses on strengthening the core muscles of the body, primarily the muscles of the abdomen, pelvic floor and hips, and helps one to move efficiently and mindfully, learning to initiate movement from their center, the “core.” Pilates is instrumental in increasing strength, reducing pain, and improving posture and alignment.
Pelvic Floor Pilates
Pelvic floor work brings our awareness to a vital part of our bodies that is often forgotten or ignored. Whether we have birthed children or not, it is important to gain more awareness of our pelvic floor and bring strength, control, AND relaxation to this area.
If you are dealing with incontinence, pain with intercourse, myofascial pelvic floor pain, or pelvic floor weakness as the result of childbirth, aging, or other cause, Pilates and pelvic floor work will help.
When you’re preparing to give birth, you want your body to be strong and well-aligned. You may also want to resolve areas of tightness or weakness before the birth. Prenatal Pilates will help you address these goals.
When you’ve given birth, you may have specific challenges to overcome, or simply want to regain your physical strength and get back into your body. Postpartum Pilates will help you move toward recovering and reconnecting with your body so you can be more fully present for yourself and as a mother.
Work With Me
In each private 55-minute session we evaluate your body and decide what we need to focus on specifically for you, including massage, stretching, rolling, and Pilates exercises.
My goal is to help you become more aware of how you feel and move in your body. I want to help you move through life mindfully and without pain, as life is a gift that we should all be able to enjoy daily!
“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time,
this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost. ” – Martha Graham
